Day 4 - Sea day

Thursday 8th January, 2009

Yesterday was a sea day and we spent the day doing a whole lot of nothing! After posting on the blog, Jordan and I went to the Cruise Critic Connections Party and met some of the people I have been talking to on the net while we were planning this trip. We met Mark, the man who has generously organised a private tour to Phillip Island to see the fairy penguins and gave him our money. We found out that he and his wife Katie had met at a Baptist Bible College in NSW, and enjoyed having a chat with them and meeting their son Max.

We had lunch in the main dining room and then slept for most of the afternoon! The water has been fairly calm, but is getting increasingly rough now that we are in the Bass Strait. Once you make the mistake of lying down on your bed even for a couple of seconds, it is like you’re in a cradle and you’re off to sleep. We woke up at 5.15pm and went to Mum and Dad’s to check out the waves. We had cheese and fruit platters (FOR FREE!!! J) and a chat for a while and then left to get ready for the first formal night. The boys went to a ‘Masters of Malt’ session to learn all about the different kinds of scotch while the girls got ready.

Once we were all fancied up for formal night, we had some photos taken with the professional photographers. They had set up a range of different backdrops that you could stand in front of, and we chose a sunset one. They took a stack of photos, but we don’t have to buy them if we don’t want to. One of the photographers was hilarious and got photos of: Tris and Jordan with Mum; Em and I with Dad, and for laughs – one of the boys kissing Dad on the cheek! I think we looked a bit crazy laughing and whatnot, but it was fun. Dinner was delicious again and we were off to bed at about 11pm.

This morning we are in the Bass Strait and the waves are much bigger than yesterday. The ship is rocking and some of the older folk are finding it hard to walk straight. Actually, I’m finding it a little difficult to walk straight!! The forecast for today at Phillip Island where we dock at 3pm is a maximum of 17 degrees!! My toes are freezing already, and Jordan has actually admitted that he will need a jacket tonight!!

We’re heading off to play Trivia now, which should be fun. Grandma and Grandad – Mum has asked me to let you know that she has been trying to get reception on her phone to call you, but we have had no luck being out in the ocean! She will give you a call as soon as she can! J

Love to you all!
